What to pack — and what to leave at home

Twelve months in, three rainy seasons in. The list is shorter than you think and the weather app is wrong about half the time.

Twelve months in. Three rainy seasons in. The list is shorter than you think.

Bring: — Light layers (a long-sleeve and a sweater for evenings) — A real rain jacket (not a poncho — actual jacket) — Walking shoes that grip on wet stone — Sunscreen (you're 1,500m up, the sun is closer) — A reusable water bottle (tap water in Medellín is potable, unusually for the region)

Leave at home: — Heavy coats — Umbrellas (the wind here laughs at them) — "Cocktail attire" (no one is dressed up; you'll feel out of place) — Your laptop, if you can help it

Full month-by-month packing list with weather norms coming next week.
