Provenza without the Provenza problem
How to spend a Saturday on the most-photographed street in Medellín and still leave liking it. Where to sit, what to skip, and the back-block places that locals quietly prefer.
Calle 8 has the Instagram. Eight blocks of cafés, design shops, and people taking photos of doorways. It's a real Saturday for plenty of people and we're not going to lecture you about it.
But there's a way to do Provenza that doesn't end with you in a 90-minute brunch line and resentful by 1pm. Walk up Calle 9 instead. Skip the place with the planters out front. Sit at the panadería that's been there for thirty years. Have an aguardiente at the corner before dinner, not after.
Full piece is on the way — block by block, with the back-block places we send our friends. For now: walk one street north of wherever the map sends you.
